,Statue of Alma Mater at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Alma Mater Augmented Reality

Do you want a traditional graduation picture? Graduating students traditionally have their picture taken in front of the statue of Alma Mater at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. However this year the statue has been removed for restoration. To compensate for the missing statue, a group of developers created a free application that uses augmented reality technology to digitally impose the Alma Mater model within the real-world scene. The application allows the user to point their iPhone or iPad camera at a poster that will be mounted on the sculpture's pedestal and see the 3-D rendering of the Alma Mater sitting on the pedestal just as though it was actually there (Augmented Reality). The Alma Mater AR app is available at iTunes, but requires the on-site target to function. The on-site target will be mounted and available to the public on the base of the Alma Mater on May 9, 2013 at 10:00 AM C.S.T.
